‘Welcome To Your Sunrise’, Logue’s debut album, is grounded in alternative R&B and neo soul. Between layered keys, tight pockets, intricate bass lines, jazz-flickered chords, and Logue’s rich vocals, she works through questions of self-doubt, her place in the world, connection to others, and trusting her higher self.
The title track is an intimate sonic reflection of Logue’s journey with these concepts. She recently came into the KMHD studio to talk more about how the new album came to be.
‘Logue’s latest, and perhaps greatest, musical achievement, however, is the recent release of her full-length debut album, Welcome to Your Sunrise, which she calls a “sonic reflection of everything [she’s] experienced in the last five years.”’
Later this month, Portland-based singer/songwriter Julia Logue is set to share her forthcoming debut LP, Welcome To Your Sunrise. She debuted in 2020 with her EP, No Face, and has spent the years since sharing a string of new singles, pulling from elements of jazz, soul, R&B, and vintage pop songstresses. Today, she is sharing the album’s title track as a final single, premiering early with Under the Radar
The album kicks off with the dreamy “Roam,” which sets the tone for the album and progresses into a display of Logue's soul-driven musicianship and vocal mastery.
A STAPLE OF ALMOST EVERY HOUSE PARTY — wallflowers lean on one of the back walls for comfort and watch the party from a safe distance. Most have had this experience, whether it was at a school dance as a teen or at a party your roommate threw full of people you didn’t really know. On Julia Logue’s new single, “Back of the Party,” the singer-songwriter embraces all of the people who stand in the back, quietly distracted by something else. The track is Logue’s second release this year, and she is excited to continue connecting with her audience.
Your new single, “Back Of The Party” is really great — congratulations! What was the lyrical inspiration behind the song? How did the track come about?
Julia: “Thank you! The lyrical inspiration started from a pretty specific and repeated experience of seeing someone I had a complicated relationship with at parties. I think I really romanticized this person at the time. The meaning of the song has deepened and shifted since its original creation, but that's where the lyrics began.”
